Initial Assessment

This is an essential step, allowing us to tailor a treatment plan that will help you achieve better oral health. If you're a new client, we will complete a medical and dental questionnaire. We will perform a complete intra-oral, extra-oral, and periodontal exam to determine the state of your oral health, as well as doing a cavity risk-assessment. We will also perform an oral cancer screening at every visit, doing a visual and tactile exam of the head, neck, face and mouth to screen for any suspicious lesions.

  • Dental scaling, and debridement for the removal of tartar. This process disrupts bacteria growth, and reduces inflammation of gum tissue.  Recommended every 3-6 months depending on your individual situation.

  • Polishing and removal of surface stains

  • Fluoride treatments to help prevent tooth decay (cavities)

  • Treatments to help reduce tooth sensitivity

  • Remineralization of tooth structure, to re-strengthen weak or soft teeth,  helping arrest tooth decay and reducing the risk of cavities.

  • Oral hygiene instruction

  • Check for sores under dentures, which might indicate a poor or changing fit

  • Remove calculus and stain from dentures

  • Advice and instruction on oral hygiene and tips on how to maintain your dentures

  • Recommendations for referrals to other health care professionals if required.

If we spot a problem with your gums and teeth that we are not able to address, we will provide information to help you determine the next steps, including recommendations on which type of healthcare professional is appropriate. We can help you navigate the network of care professionals to find the right services for you. Click here to fill out the referral form.

On request, we can offer educational seminars for personal caregivers and residential staff containing research-based information on how to maintain the oral health of housebound people or those who are unable to visit a traditional dental clinic.
